Captain Stephen Johnson is a Jacksonville Florida native and local, born and raised on the water. At an early age I took to fishing and exploring my local waterways and fisheries. After many years of land-based fishing, I saved enough money to invest in a fishing kayak. After a few year of using that platform to expand my knowledge, I sold it and used the funds to get my first microskiff. From that point forward I focused my time and energy dialing in my fishery and taking friends, family and clients out for an unforgettable catching experience. This amount of fishing and time on the water turned into what is now called “Gold in Grass Charters”

At Gold In’ Grass Charters, we pride ourselves in providing a relaxed and enjoyable guided fishing trips while maintaining the upmost respect for wildlife and the estuary. Here in North East Florida We specialize in sight-fishing redfish and speckled trout in shallow tidal water creeks and spartina grass flats.

April through October are the warm water, BIG Tide days that flood the Spartina Grass flats and get those redfish and sheepshead TAILS-UP on the flats searching for your FLY.

November through March we focus on the negative low tides and clear water to help locate MASSIVE schools of redfish congregated to stay warm!
